Screaming Eagle is one of Napa Valley's smallest wineries. The little stone winery is perched on a rocky hillside in the Oakville Appellation overlooking the vineyard planted in Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc.

The wine is aged 65% new French oak barrels for almost two years. Annual production is approximately 500 cases with most wine sold directly to consumers via a mailing list. The winery's first release was approximately 200 cases of the 1992 vintage. 

Blend:  61% Merlot, 2% Cabernet Franc and 37% Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2017 The Flight is all about sensuality and nuance, both of which it has in spades. Precise and aromatically expressive with striking finesse. In 2017, the blend has a bit more Merlot than usual because there was less Cabernet to work with as a result of the fires. That, along with a number of heat spikes, yielded an especially open-knit Flight. Rose petals, mint, lavender and spice give the 2017 striking aromatic top notes.

Silky, perfumed and light on its feet is invigorating in its freshness, with a pretty, classically austere feel that is such a signature of the year at so many properties.
