Since its discovery in 1868, it has been made from the exact same recipe, Bright red Tabasco chilies are ground and mixed with the indigenous stone salt from Avery Island and barreled for up to three years in oak barrels.
The resulting hot pepper sauce then gets mixed with salt and vinegar before it gets bottled ban to send it all over the world. The vinegar is added for reasons more than just the durability, it’s added to give the sauce that special red pepper Tabasco taste.
