The Antinori family has been involved in the production of wine for over six centuries, ever since, in 1385, Giovanni di Piero Antinori entered as a member, the “Arte Fiorentina”, the Winemakers’ Guild of the city of Florence.
During this entire long period, through twenty-six generations, the family has always directly managed this work with courageous and, at times, innovative decisions.
The Tenuta Tignanello estate is in the heart of Chianti Classico, in the gently rolling hillsides between the Greve and Pesa river valleys. It extends over an area of 319 hectares (788 acres), of which 130 (321 acres) are dedicated to vines.
Two of the estate’s prized vineyards are on the same hillside, Tignanello and Solaia, on soils that originated from marine marlstone from the Pliocene period rich in limestone and schist. The vines enjoy hot temperatures during the day and cooler evenings throughout the growing season.
Blend: 72% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Sangiovese, 8% Cabernet Franc.
Solaia 2019 has a deep ruby-red color.
The nose is distinguished by its complexity and aromatic finesse: notes of small red fruits, in particular raspberry and mulberry, alternate with sweet hints of ripe apricot and blood orange combined with light floral nuances of pink; the evident aromas of coffee bean, chocolate and licorice are perfectly integrated, accompanied by fresh sensations of mint and white pepper, capable of giving the rich bouquet a pleasant and delicate spicy note.
On the palate it is enveloping, and harmonious, with an excellent and balanced structure; the sweet and vibrant tannins make it compact, persuasive and with an extraordinarily long finish.
The aftertaste is very persistent, where the toasted and spicy notes perceived on the nose are found.
