In 1521, Château Haut-Brion became the first Bordeaux vineyard to be named after its terroir, instead of the owner or the parish, making the estate the first luxury wine brand in the world.
This led Haut-Brion to earn the rare distinction of Premier Grand Cru Classé, Classified First Growth, in the 1855 classification, the only cru outside the Médoc to receive this prestigious title.
Blend: 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 53% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Franc
Beautiful, deep, and dense color. The subtlety and finesse of the fruit and tannin dominate the initial aromas.
On the palate, the tannic sensation fills the mouth. It is both supple and grainy. The tactile sensation of the tannin is surprising; it is not aggressive, yet its presence is unexpected.
Simultaneously, the notes characteristic of the Haut-Brion terroir unfold: ripe fruit, black berries, blackberry, blackcurrant, and cherry pit.
The tannin is firm yet silky, becoming mellow on the finish. An exceptionally complex structure defines this wine.
