Giscours has a long, rich history, which can be traced back to the fourteenth century. At that time it was a defensive tower overlooking a wild and inhospitable region. The real beginning came in 1552, when Pierre de Lhomme, a wealthy Bordeaux draper, bought a nobleman’s house called “Guyscoutz”; he proceeded to turn it into a vast estate and planted the first vines. La Sirène de Giscours Margaux. This second wine of Château Giscours comes from the selection of the youngest vines. The vinification and aging benefit from the same care as the Grand Vin, Chateau Giscours.
There are attractive aromatics of cigar box, leather, earth, mulberry and blackcurrant. The palate sees a medium length finish, with tight tannins and classic left bank flavors of blackcurrant and cedar. Reveals a tarry edge on the finish, but remains racy and fresh overall, with the iron note winning out in the end.
