In the very south of the Côte de Beaune, on the border of the Côte-d'Or and the Saône-et-Loire, Santenay shared its ambitions for a long time between wine and thermal waters. Today, the village is fully devoted to Bacchus, forgetting that it was formerly called Santenay–les–Bains. 

Only the coincidences of the departmental limits, fixed during the Revolution, separated Santenay from the Maranges. The vineyard, crossed by a gentle river, the Dheune, produces age-worthy red wines, which have “the soul of Volnay and the body of Pommard”.
