Managed since 1985 by Hubert de Boüard de Laforest, Angélus has belonged to his family since 1782 when Jean de Boüard de Laforest, a King’s bodyguard, settled in Saint-Emilion. During the last classification review of the appellation, which took place in 2012, Angelus reached the top step of the podium, becoming Premier Cru Classé "A" alongside the Châteaux Cheval Blanc, Ausone and Pavie.
Alongside it, the famous Carillon de l'Angélus finds its place as the second wine of the Château. It was born in 1987 and today represents about 20% of the production of the property. Over the years it has acquired its very own identity. Reflecting on the high, rigorous standards of the teams, the wine is a variable blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon selected from different Saint-Emilion terroirs. The vinification and aging techniques are adapted with precision to its particular style. It is highly appreciated for the purity of its fruit aromas, its velvety tannins and elegant finish.
A dark robe with garnet highlights, a subtle nose with notes of stewed fruit, a touch of wood and a hint of spice, the mouth is all-round, ample and well structured. The tannins are fine and evolve in finesse towards an incredibly long and fragrant finish. 2010 a great vintage!
