In 1961, the Santa Margherita oenologist had what proved to be a brilliant idea. He decided to try the white vinification technique used for the production of French Champagne on the best Pinot Grigio grapes from Trentino-Alto-Adige.
This led to the creation of an innovative white wine which, with its fresh aroma and silky taste, created a new fashion in white wine drinking. this crisp, elegant wine was introduced to the United States by Anthony Terlato in 1979. Thirty-nine years later, Santa Margherita remains the most requested Pinot Grigio in the US.
