Georges Vernay is known as the King of Condrieu and was responsible for the growth and worldwide recognition of this small appellation during the 1950s. His estate covers 16 ha of vineyards, 3 ha of which are in the Côte Rôtie appellation. The steep and uneven vineyards make mechanical labor impossible.
The vines are manually propagated without the use of residual herbicide or insecticide. George's daughter, Christine, returned to her roots with Paul Anselem, her Parisian husband, and has looked after the winemaking since 1997.
Grape Variety: 95% Syrah, 5% Viognier.
Dark robe, mineral nose, smoky, with black fruit, black olive, pepper, all enhanced by a floral component provided by the viognier, it is wine at once very aromatic and very great elegance.
With tannins well built but perfectly smooth, this Côte-Rôtie, which offers in the mouth a beautiful oval and a beautiful final length, is sweet and sensual: a delightful pleasure.
