Tradition is obviously a basic essential when it comes to managing this family estate. But for more than twenty years now, the quality of the wines of Château Villars has developed through the application of modern oenological principles, to become today one of the references of its appellation.
Grape Varieties: 76% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Franc and 3% Cabernet Sauvignon .
The wines of Château Villars owe their personality to soils of clay and limestone. While the clay lends them their power and depth, the limestone does a great job of regulating the water supply available to the vine.
Returning to the family estate in 1991 after having practiced the profession of wine consultant in the Blayais region, Thierry Gaudrie has greatly contributed to making this 30 ha vintage - in his family for two centuries - a reference in Fronsac.
The dress is deep. The nose opens with aeration on floral, peppery and slightly toasted notes. After a smooth and delicate attack, on the core, the palate is supported by a good frame of tannins with aromas of spices and roasting and shows a good length.
