The presence of a vineyard on the grounds of the current Château Clinet dates back to the early 17th century, while the estate belongs to the family of Gombault. From the end of the eighteenth century, the property is entirely dedicated to the production of wine: published in 1785, the map of Belleyme - named after the geographer to whom was entrusted the cartography of Guyenne - reveals an area entirely covered with vines. In 1825, Château Clinet changed hands for the first time, falling into the pocket of the Arnaud family, owner of the not yet famous Petrus.
After many changes of ownership, Château Clinet was taken over in 1908 by the Audy family, who did not spare any effort to raise the quality of their wine. The 1980s are a particularly good time for this vintage Pomerol: under the direction of Jean-Michel Arcaute, son-in-law of Georges Audy, bold cultural practices for the time are introduced with a frank success, gratifying the wine of Château Clinet many rave reviews. Blend: 90% Merlot, 9% Cabernet Sauvignon and 1% Cabernet Franc
Deep garnet, a purple color. and unfolds slowly and provocatively in the glass with hints of crushed black cherries, warm black raspberries and red cherry compote as well as undertones of bay leaves, cinnamon stick, star anise, fenugreek and forest mat and potpourri and mocha waffles.
The palate reveals a sensual medium-bodied style beautifully offset by very firm and very silky tannins and bursting with energetic, multi-faceted fruit as well as great tension, finishing long with a striking spice and a floral scent. A real stunner!
