The Famille Bourgeois has been in love with Pinot Noir and Sauvignon Blanc for 11th generation. The domain covers 72 hectares on the best Terroir of Sancerre and Pouilly-Fumé appellations. Brought to fruition by Henri Bourgeois over 50 years ago, the vineyards lie on some of the most rugged hillside terrains, offering the best exposures in the Loire Valley.
La Bourgeoise Red is a selection of very old Pinot Noir vines planted on southwest-facing flinty-clay hills. Historically, the names of the plots, first worked by the monks of Saint-Satur, giving this wine were affectionately called “les Bourgeoises”. That is why, in the eighties, this name was given to the new cuvee made from these selected parcels. Flinty soils give wines with great minerality, intensity and excellent aging potential.
This ruby and garnet-colored wine develop very ripe red fruits aromas with hints of morello cherries, plums and a touch of vanilla.
The old vines and low yields produce a very concentrated and well-structured cuvée heralding good aging potential. Under ideal conditions, this wine could age a decade or more.
