2007 Chassagne Montrachet, F.Faiveley
Erwan Faiveley is the seventh generation running Domaine Faiveley. Pierre
Faiveley founded the company in 1825. Since then it has grown to cover an
impressing 120 hectares of vines in the Côte de Nuits, the Côte de Beaune and the
Côte Chalonnaise. These vines produce more 80 percent of the wine that Faiveley
sells. The rest is bought in as grapes, must or, as is the case with most their
Bourgogne rouge and Bourgogne blanc, as finished wine.
Good bright, pale yellow. With nutty, meaty oak scents, then open with air show
stone fruits and marzipan. Tactile and fairly rich but dry, with good mineral
extract to the flavors of white plum, flowers and oak spices. Finish with very
good texture and length.

2007 Chateauneuf du Pape Bernardine,
Michel Chapoutier
At one time not that long ago Chapoutier, today one of the Rhône Valley's
big-name négociants and most successful wine empires, was nothing more than a
failing family enterprise, heavily in debt. That the business survived through to
today is due solely to the efforts of one Chapoutier scion, Michel, who bought out
all his siblings, cousins, maiden aunts and other family members who held shares.
This comes in at 14%, officially declared at least, and is predominantly
Grenache. There is really rather fresh and bright fruit here, albeit with a toffee
coat, and this is soon joined by touches of nut and raisin too. On the palate it has a
polished substance, a stony fruit ball, showing some meaty and spicy elements
alongside.

2010 Pouilly-Fume, Pascal Jolivet
Pascal Jolivet blends his Pouilly Fume from vines grown on different types
of soil giving the wine a terrific balance and depth but with that smoky
richness that characterises Pouilly Fume. Softer, fuller fruit than Sancerre.
There is massive variance in the soil types between each village:
Les Loges: Very chalky soils, representing 50% of the blend.
St Andelain: Argilo-siliceous soils, representing 30% of the blend.
Tracy: Siliceous soils (chalky underground), representing 20% of the blend.
The grapes from the argilo-siliceous and siliceous soils give the fruit and
develop the bouquet. The grapes from the chalky soils give length and body
