Didier Dageuneau, Pur Sang Pouilly-Fumé 2002 - Great richness here with
alluring smoke and blanched almond notes enveloping a core of candied
citrus peel, lanolin, macadamia nut, coconut and wet straw flavors. But it's still
steely as well, with a nervy edge that adds considerable length to the finish.
Drink now through 2010.

Vignoble Brunier, Domaine de Vieux Télégraphe 2002  - Domaine du Vieux
Telegraphe does indeed derive its name from an old telegraph station, which
was once sited on the hill where this Chateauneuf domaine now stands. The
station was one of Claude Chappe's optical telegraph relay towers, erected in
1792.
The domaine is run by the Brunier family, with brothers Daniel and Frederic
having taken over from their father, Henri, in 1988. Their vineyards are unusual
in that they lie in a single block, on the
La Crau plateau. The soils are covered
by the pebble blanket of Alpine diluvium genrally known as 'galets roulés'.
Beneath these large rounded stones which are classically associated with the
vineyards of Chateauneuf du Pape there is more organic soil, and then red
clay. The vines average an impressive age of 40 years.
Grape varieties - Clairette 40%, Grenache Blanc 30%, Bourboulenc 15%,
Roussane15%.
Vinification - grapes are hand-picked with stingent double sorting at the
vine.Pressing takes place in a pneumatic press. Sixty percent is fermented in
tanks and forty percent in 'barrique'.

Pascal Jolivet,  Sancerre 2003  - This clear, light straw-color wine shows a
greenish-brassy hue in the glass. Classic Sauvignon Blanc aromas blend a
characteristic "grassy" quality with appetizing notes of citrus. Crisp flavors offer
fresh citric fruit over mouth-watering acidity, with an attractive, cleansing
lemon-peel tang in the long, clean finish.
Retail Price:
Pascal Jolivet,  Pouilly-Fumé, 'La Grande Cuvée' 2000  - Lanolin and candied
lemon peel notes run through this thick, full-bodied Sauvignon, before turning
milky on the heavy finish. Comes off as clumsy in the end.
Tast it twice for consistent notes.
